Born in 1991 in Alexandria, Virginia, and raised through her high school and college years in Utah, Emilae Belo considers the Mountain West her home. She is a classically trained oil painter based in Eagle Mountain, Utah, whose work is rooted primarily in landscape and extends into intimate portrayals of individuals and children. Whether capturing the stillness of a horizon or quiet moments of solitude and connection, her paintings reflect a search for peace and gentle introspection.
Drawn early to both mathematics and art, Emilae was interested not only in creating images but in understanding the principles behind them. Dissatisfied with the modernist emphasis of traditional university art programs, she pursued rigorous training in the academic tradition at the Masters Academy of Art beginning in 2011. There, she refined her technical skills and developed a disciplined approach to painting inspired by 19th-century naturalist painters. She also served as a student-teacher, assisting Director Ryan S. Brown, critiquing drawing students, and leading open figure drawing sessions.
Today, Emilae seeks to create work that offers an internal place of rest amid the noise of busy, competitive lives. Through quiet harmonies of color and form, her paintings invite viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with a sense of solitude and serenity.
